Halton Region's commercial garbage and recycling service did not change when the residential Blue Box moved to a new operator on January 1, 2026 (Halton Region, 2026). These rules apply to Burlington businesses on Regional collection, and they differ from the rules at home:
- Halton lists weekly commercial collection, and Tuesday and Friday collection for participating business improvement areas (Halton Region). Confirm your address's schedule with the Region.
- Set carts out no earlier than 5 p.m. the evening before collection, and by 7 a.m. on collection day, or 9 a.m. on Mondays (Halton Region).
- At business locations, food waste, paper cups and shredded paper go in the Black Cart as garbage (Halton Region).
- Only regular household and office garbage is collected, and nothing over 23 kg (Halton Region).
If your cleaner handles the bins, give them your collection day and Halton's business sorting list. If your building uses a private hauler, ask the hauler for its sorting rules instead.
Night work and Burlington's noise by-law
Burlington's noise by-law restricts handling containers and refuse from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. where the sound is clearly audible at a neighbouring property, with an exemption where it is necessary to maintain essential services (City of Burlington, By-law 19-2003).
